Introduction

The process of applying for an Indian passport is not as simple as it seems. There are various documents that you will have to provide, depending on your circumstances. In this post, we will discuss some of the most important documents that are required while applying for an Indian passport.

1) Proof of Existing Address (POA)

Proof of existing address (POA) must show your present address and the date you moved to it. You can use any document that shows your name, your current address, and its date. It should be from the same address as shown in the POP. If you are an NRI then POA can be from any place in India but it must contain your name and signature.

If POA is not available with you then you can also submit some other proof like electricity bill/telephone bill/bank statement etc., which contains all personal information including name, current address, and valid date in all these three areas: Name Address DOB NCC

2) Proof of Present Address (POP)

● Proof of present address (POP)

To apply for a passport, you need to show that you have lived at the address for at least 6 months before application. The applicant must provide a valid passport-size photograph of himself/herself with a full face as shown in the proof of identity document submitted by him/her.

3) Proof of Date of Birth (DOB)

● Proof of Date of Birth (DOB)

You will need to submit proof of date of birth (DOB) in the form of a birth certificate issued by:

● The Registrar of Births and Deaths

● The Municipal Corporation

● The Registrar of Marriages

● The Registrar of Census

● The Registrar of Hindu Marriages

4) Nationality Certificate, issued by the office of SDM in Delhi or Passport by Parents

You need to submit your parents’ Nationality Certificate. It is issued by the office of SDM in Delhi. After verifying your documents, they issue this certificate on request.

The Indian Passport by Parents has a validity of five years, and it is not renewable unless you marry an Indian citizen or get naturalized as an Indian citizen under section 5(1)© of the Citizenship Act 1955-India.

5) Old Passport (in case the applicant is holding one), in original and photocopy.

Old Passport (in case the applicant is holding one), in original and photocopy.

A passport should be valid with minimum 6 months validity period remaining.

Passports should be issued by the Consulate General of India.

The passport should be in the name of the applicant, i.e., both names mentioned on it must match exactly with what you have entered under ‘Personal Details’ during the application submission process on our website or at a Counsellor’s Office or at an RPO (please check passport photo).

It means that if your full name is not displayed on your passport and only initials are shown then please provide us two documents as proof for changing your name from initials to full spelling out of which one document should belong to a government institution like a PAN card, Adhaar card, etc. The second document could be any other utility bill having your name printed clearly like electricity bill, telephone bill, etc.

6) Affidavit for Change of Name in case there is a change in name.

If you have changed your name, then you will require an affidavit for a change of name to be submitted along with the application. The affidavit has to be signed by the applicant and attested by a gazetted officer.

The gazetted officer needs to sign in front of a Notary Public and stamp/seal it. After that, it needs to be translated into English by a Notary Public or General Translator who is authorized by their respective Consulates/Embassies in India.
